Out of the Pit to Victory

Have you ever felt like life has found you in the pit of despair??? If so, I want to encourage your heart today that there is a way out and His name is Jesus!!! He is the One who is able to raise us as His kids of faith up just as King David discovered and wrote about so many years ago:

“He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.”

Psalm 40:2 NIV

Joseph in the Bible is another man who certainly knew what it was like to have the enemy seek to put his life in the pit which is exactly what happened when his brothers out of their jealousy hated Joseph and cast him into a pit (there was no water in it). I find it interesting that it says there was no water in it and when a life is in the pits of the enemy, it is in great need of our Father’s living waters there to float one to the top to raise up out of it!!!

Joseph in pit

In Joseph’s situation, our Father was with Joseph as his brothers decided to take him out of the pit and sell him for 20 shekels of silver to some passing Ishmaelites on their way to Egypt.

Camels Took Joseph

Joseph was then sold in Egypt to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh and captain of the guard. However, as gloomy as this story seems, there was victory for Joseph and his whole family because Joseph was a man of faith and hence, he was not paralyzed with fear!!! Step by step he kept faith in his Father and was raised up victorious, standing firm upon his ROCK!!! Wooohooo!!! I sooo love Father’s victory for his kids!!! Joseph understood that it was his Father’s grace that worked victory through the enemies tactic against him as a saint!!! This is evident in his words to his brothers whom he was finally reunited with during a great famine that came about in which he was made an Egyptian overseer of food distribution and was able to feed his precious family!!! He said to his brothers:

“You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is being done, the saving of many lives.”

Genesis 50:20 NIV

Joseph Reunited With Brothers

Joseph and Brothers

Oh it is just like our sweet Father to work good through all things for those who are called according to His purpose!!! That is His promise to us as His kids of faith!!! Bless Him for His faithfulness to us!!! He just makes me smile!!!

During Joseph’s time in prison, he accomplished much there because he enjoyed:

  • A personal vision from God. From his youth, Joseph knew that God had something special in mind for him.
  • A personal relationship with his Father. God’s Word says that “the Lord was with Joseph.”
  • A stronger character development because with each trial, Joseph grew stronger.
  • Practical ability and experience gained through his life as he took charge in prison.
  • A special giftedness from God. Joseph’s abilities to interpret dreams enabled him to make a difference in many lives.
  • A unique blessing from God. Four times the Bible expresses God’s blessing of Joseph with some version of “whatever he did, the Lord made it prosper.”

The bottom line to being raised up out of the pits in life is keeping close to Jesus!!! He is our hope, our strong deliverer as this song says here. He is also our everlasting God through our faith in His finished work on the cross for each of us which is one big way He has forever lifted us all up out of the pit of life with the enemy!!! Now awesome is our God to do all of this for each of us His kids of faith!!! Do you feel there is a place in your life that is in a pit of despair, dear one??? If so, be encouraged that as you draw close to Jesus, He will help you!!! What step of faith is He asking you to take as you trust Him to raise you up and have you standing strong and firm in His place of victory for you??? He is always faithful to His kids who look to Him!!! Know you are loved with forever unfailing, unconditional love where you are and He has victory for you!!! We can trust Him!!! šŸ™‚ Perhaps you know someone that could use some help out of a pit, if so, share the story of Joseph with them and encourage them to stay close to Jesus!!! He is always the victory!!!
