Learning to step with the leading of the Holy Spirit in life is important because it is the divine life!!! When our Father sets a “no” for us in life, it does not necessarily mean that it will be the forever final answer!!! It also does not necessarily mean that it won’t be either!!! When we are not sure of how to proceed in life, it is best to wait on the Holy Spirit to reveal to you when the right timing is and what His heart is for us.
John Doe and Jane Smith have been dating for a couple of weeks and John presents Jane with an engagement ring!!! Jane likes John but the timing is too soon to be sure that they should marry. She faces three choices, 1) saying no and risking that John will never speak to her again or 2)say no and trust if he cares for her that he will continue to give their relationship time to grow and see where the future leads with the guidance of the Lord in their midst!!! 3) She could say yes even though she doesn’t know him that well yet and assume they are meant to be together because he asked her and that their relationship will bloom and blossom in divine compatibility moving forward!!! What do you think Jesus would do??? Jane did the mature thing, she said no until she knew for sure of their compatibility and unity in Christ. In times of uncertainty, here are the options:
- Since you are unsure, you say yes.
- Since you are unsure, you say no.
- Since you are unsure, you say wait.
Suppose someone asks something from you that you are not sure you can give and you say yes and then find that you haven’t enough to give or are able to continue to give with a cheerful heart??? Our Father’s Word tells us this:
“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
2 Corinthians 9:7
Our Father tells us it is better to give out of our resources than to promise that which we may not be able to deliver. Jesus says to calculate the cost:
“Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Will he not first sit down and estimate the cost to see if he has enough money to complete it? For if he lays the foundation and is not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule him.”
- Boundary-injured people make promises and then make one of two choices: 1) They resentfully make good or 2) They fail to follow thru with the promise.
- Boundary-developed people make good freely and gladly or they don’t promise at all.
The lesson in this is not to commit to things that you are not sure you will have the ability or heart to continue. If our Father gives you a go ahead yes and your heart is into it, we can go with it as He guides. If He says a definite no, say no confidently. If He says wait, wait!!! As Father’s kids, it is wise to always stay open to moving with His Holy Spirit’s guidance rather than following people’s desires for us. Seeking to please all the people all the time will never be something that any of us can keep up!!!
We must step with the Holy Spirit for the divine life always and oh, that just keeps us with a cheerful free heart always!!! I love that!!! It just makes me smile to see with the eyes of Jesus as this song says here!!! 🙂
