Hi, precious saints!!! Today Father speaks of routines. Do you have routines in your life? Some things that you do the same, day in and day out? Perhaps it isn’t a daily thing, but perhaps weekly or monthly or maybe annually? Do you have a favorite Christmas tradition that you look forward to each year, or perhaps there is a family tradition that someone else in your life has carried on year after year. Perhaps their Christmas gift to you is the same every year – a box of cherry chocolates and a little money to go with it? Perhaps they always have a dinner at a certain time on Christmas Eve and get very upset at the thought of changing it for other plans. Perhaps you have become very set on it and it seems that Christmas just wouldn’t be Christmas without it! Many people are traditionalists while others are very spontaneous and like life to always be with a new and different experience. As I think about our Father, I have realized that our Father is some of both. Every year, we celebrate the same awesome divine gift of Jesus that He has given to us over and over again and it is always a blessed gift to have because it is an indescribable and very special gift!!!
There are just some things that we can count on always receiving from our Father such as His eternal promise of salvation and forgiveness to those who believe in the gift of His Son’s provision for their sin. He also always extends to us His unfailing love and presence, wisdom and hope without end. His love for us stays the same through the ages. How sweet is He to us as His family!!! I guess you could say He is a traditionalist in that He is same yesterday as He is today as He will be tomorrow. We can count on Him even when life has its difficult times. He makes all things work together for our good. But there is also newness about Him, in that His mercies towards us are new every morning and He leads us in His will moment by moment with His Holy Spirit!!! One way to say it is we can not put God in a box:
We may set out with our plan B, but our Father may change it for His plan A. This we can count on, it is His best for us always and God is always good! Given this, I guess we could say that our Father also has a spontaneous side. Life is an adventure with Him. Woohoo! How exciting is that!
Given all of these thoughts, I guess I have to say that I am a traditionalist in many ways, but I also love the unpredictable adventures that my Father allows me to be a part of as well. It is good to appreciate the traditions in life, but also be flexible and open to our Father’s will to change those traditions if that is His best plan for loving Him and others as we go through the Christmas Season and life beyond. James said it is good to say “if it is our Father’s will, we will live and do this or that.” I recall Jesus also said to the Father, not my will, but Yours. That sounds like good advice to this cowgirl for keeping the peace this Christmas Season and down the trail as well. Jesus is our Prince of Peace. With that, in keeping with tradition, I’m heading out with my Father to enjoy the adventures He has for me today. Happy trails to ya where He leads your day today!!!
“But I have trusted in lovingkindness; My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation. I will sing to the LORD, Because He has dealt bountifully with me.”
“The Lord’s loving kindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail.”
May you enjoy this song here of Father’s unfailing love no matter what the tradition or new plan!!!
