Have you ever thought about what it might be like to watch a family as they celebrate a tradition that is unfamiliar to you??? I was thinking about this today as I was pondering our Father’s Word. It talked about how the Shepherds had returned from seeing for themselves the Christ child and they spread the word concerning what they knew about Him. The passage says that all who heard it were amazed!!! Now how exciting is that to reveal Jesus to someone for the first time!!! I love that thought as this song says here, too!!!
Our Father has stated many times throughout the Bible for us as His people to remember the great things that He has done for us and to celebrate those things – to pass it on to future generations!!! It is right to remember the birth of our Savior and celebrate the gift of Him in our lives!!! TO THAT I SAY WOOOHOOO!!! LET’S CELEBRATE!!! I have heard people say “I think we should just forget about Christmas this year, it has just gotten to be too expensive and too much work.” May we never forget how special the gift of salvation is to us and cease celebrating that!!! It doesn’t take more energy or resources than what Jesus’ grace provides so it is never too expensive or too much work unless we act in the flesh against the reasonable will of our Father!!! Jesus says His yoke is easy and His burden is light!!!
Having said that, I go back to my thought of wondering what someone unfamiliar with Jesus would think if they watched Christians at Christmas. They would see that we put up trees with lights and ornaments all over it inside the house. They would see us decorating our houses inside and outside, filling the stores and buying many presents to wrap and put under the tree and ripping them open on Christmas morning. They’d see cooking and baking and feasting and oh so many parties! But would they wonder why we do what we do? There are some that view Christmas as just a winter celebration and there are those who want to remove Christ from Christmas. That misses the whole reason for the season!!! Come, let us reason!!! 🙂 Jesus is the reason!!! Christmas is the celebration of the birth of a Savior who grew up and died on a cross so that we can have forgiveness of our sins, be saved from eternal separation from God and instead have an eternal relationship and life with the God of the Universe!!! Woohoo!!! What a great thing to celebrate!!! Let’s share it with the world!!!
As I think of the Shepherds, they shared what they knew about the Christ child and all were amazed that heard what they said. Wow!!! What great opportunity we as Christians have this time of year to share a great gift of love with those who do not know Christ by telling them the reason behind why we do what we do and what we know about Christ from our own experience with Him!!!
“Be careful that you do not forget the LORD, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.”
Jesus gives my life such a sense of purpose, confidence, peace, joy, hope, love, victory and excitement to partner with Him in His heart to bring his heavenly love and light to earth!!!
“…as for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the Sovereign LORD my refuge; I will tell of all your deeds.”
“Then I thought, “To this I will appeal; the years when the Most High stretched out His right hand.”
What is the symbolism behind our traditions that point to and give opportunity to share Christ??? Do you know, do your children and family and neighbors and coworkers and store clerks know??? What does Christ personally mean to you and to me??? How has experience with Him changed our lives as Christians??? Do we reflect His love to others in our hurriedness??? I am pondering and I ask of you to also ponder how we can point out Christ as we go through the traditions of celebrating Christmas this year!!! He is too great to keep a secret as this song says here!!! In all our season’s greetings this year, let’s amaze those around us by sharing the real reason for the season and maybe they will celebrate Jesus with us!!! YYYAAAHHHHOOO!!! I just love that idea of the whole world celebrating Jesus!!! It makes my Christmas celebration even merrier to think about the why rather than just going thru the motions!!! Why do we do what we do, precious saints?!! For me, it’s JESUS!!! 🙂
“My people, hear my teaching; listen to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth with a parable; I will utter hidden things, things from of old–things we have heard and known, things our ancestors have told us. We will not hide them from their descendants; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, His power, and the wonders He has done.”
